A home insulated with Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation in the walls and attic saves homeowners on heating and cooling costs and dramatically reduces noise from outside the building as well as from room to room.

Nu-Wool Co., Inc. offers an industry leading 10 year Energy Guarantee on all new homes insulated with Nu-Wool brand products.

Buildings insulated with Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation have a noticeable “quietness”. Sharp sounds are subdued by the increased mass of Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation.

Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is one of the few construction materials used in houses that is treated for fire resistance. Because of its fire resistance, Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation stops or slows the spread of fire in attics and wall cavities.

The superior moisture management properties of Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation actually make it a better choice than fiberglass insulation for managing moisture problems.

    Specifications of Premium Cellulose Insulation

Nu-Wool is code compliant and meets or exceeds ICC-ES code requirements for thermal insulation. Specifying Nu-Wool on your plans ensures performance and energy savings throughout the life of your structure.

The R-Value of Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is 3.8 per inch. Installing Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation using the Nu-Wool WALLSEAL System eliminates voids and air pockets common with other insulation materials, reducing air infiltration and increasing the “Effective R-Value” of the wall assembly.

Due to its product makeup and density, Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation can be installed in many unique framing situations and other hard to insulate areas.

Properly packing high density Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation into cathedral ceilings significantly reduces both the air pockets that cause moisture problems and the need for getting rid of condensation.

    The Facts About Cellulose Insulation

Fact: All loose-fill insulation products can settle over time. By federal law and industry standards compensation for settlement is built into cellulose insulation coverage charts. When installed properly in accordance with the coverage chart, loose-fill cellulose insulation will not settle below the intended R-Value. When Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is properly installed in wall cavities to a density of 3.0 to 3.5 pounds per cubic foot using the Nu-Wool WALLSEAL System, it adheres to the studs, plates and sheathing, and will not settle.

Fact: Cellulose insulation has a Class A Fire rating. It is treated with fire retardants to meet all federal, state, and local fire safety requirements. Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation contains 100% borate-based fire retardants, and has been successfully tested in over 50 UL approved 1, 2 and 3- hour firewall designs.

Fact: This type of application is common in new construction where a small amount of water is added for increased bonding to the sheathing. The moisture content, when installed correctly, dissipates quickly, typically resulting in moisture content at or below wood framing members. Further Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation contains an EPA Registered fungicide, which makes the insulation resistant to mold growth.

Fact: Cellulose insulation in walls will typically be more expensive than fiberglass batts due to higher installation costs. However, the difference in cost is quickly recovered through greater savings on energy bills by using cellulose insulation. Blown in cellulose and blown in fiberglass insulations are comparably priced. Cellulose insulation is less expensive than foam insulation.

Fact: This is simply not true. Cellulose insulation is no more subject to mold contamination than any other building material. Published studies indicate that the hygroscopic nature of cellulose insulation results in superior moisture handling characteristics.

Fact: R-Value is only one factor to consider when choosing insulation. The performance of an insulation material is also dependent upon reducing heat loss through air infiltration, convection and radiation. Cellulose insulation reduces air infiltration and convection better than other insulation products with the same R-Value, giving cellulose insulation superior overall performance.

Fact: Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper, not material from newly cut trees. In fact, cellulose insulation, with almost 86% recycled paper content, actually diverts almost a million tons of waste paper annually from landfills.
